The Wisdom of Vimshottari Dasha System
In Vedic astrology, transit of planets (Gochara) provides the daily atmospheric weather, but the Vimshottari Dasha provides the actual season of life. Whether a native experiences prosperity, marriage, foreign travel, spiritual awakening, or career hurdles is primarily governed by which planet holds the master key to life during that specific epoch.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Vimshottari Mahadasha in Vedic Astrology? ▼
Vimshottari Dasha is the most revered predictive timing system in Sage Parashara's Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. It maps a human lifespan of 120 years across the 9 planetary periods (Ketu 7y, Venus 20y, Sun 6y, Moon 10y, Mars 7y, Rahu 18y, Jupiter 16y, Saturn 19y, Mercury 17y). The starting planetary ruler is governed by the Moon's exact Nakshatra at birth.
What is the difference between Mahadasha, Antardasha, and Pratyantar Dasha? ▼
Mahadasha represents the major overarching life theme and macro-environment (spanning years). Antardasha (Bhukti) is the sub-period governing specific events within that major period (spanning months). Pratyantar Dasha is the sub-sub period governing daily and weekly psychological micro-fluctuations.
How do I know if my current Mahadasha is auspicious or inauspicious? ▼
The outcome of a Mahadasha depends on the functional dignity of the Dasha lord in your natal Kundli (Lagna chart). If the planet rules Kendra (1, 4, 7, 10) or Trikona (1, 5, 9) houses and is well-placed, it brings prosperity, status, and health. If it rules dusthanas (6, 8, 12) or is debilitated, it tests resilience and demands spiritual remedies.
